New EP - ...One Would Hope
I'm pleased to announce the release today of
my new EP,
...One Would Hope. Nothing too terribly new, if you've been following my career so far. We kick things off with
"Back from Juvie," exactly as submitted to
Songfight a few months ago. Then we take the quirkiness up a notch with
"Schadenfreude," which debuts in its new version here. I replaced the fake piano and elec.piano with slightly less-fake piano and elec.piano tones, and completely redid the bridge. From there, I depress the heck out of the listener with
"Phantom," then bring the whirlwind eleven-minute emotional journey to a close near where it started with the new version of
"Rhymes with Lucia," both of the latter as announced in
a news post about a week and a half ago.
This EP doubles as an audition CD for me, for a program which I'll tell you more about if I'm accepted. In the meantime, enjoy the tuneage. It should serve to whet your appetite for the full-length album I'll be dropping by the end of the summer.
Over and out,
-Jon

New Song - "Amsterdam"
The new
Songfight, "Amsterdam," is due, and sometime in the next couple of days, it'll be updated with all the new songs, including one by
Jon Eric & Friends (click to listen). It features the industrious help of R. Mosquito on drums and
The Def Author rapping!
Enjoy!

Songfight Victory! Plus new(ish) songs!
Last week's Songfight dual-collaboration between Ross Durand and me has proven quite fruitful indeed, as Ross' version of my "False Positive" took first place in the fight! Congratulations to Ross for doing an excellent recording from my rough demo, and
thank you to anyone who voted for it. My version of his song got 7 votes.
Rather than competing in this week's Songfight, I've been keeping myself busy revisiting some old tracks for a demo. This demo will double as an audition (for what, I won't yet say) and as an EP, for your listening pleasure. To that end, I've rerecorded my 2006 Songfight entry
"Rhymes with Lucia," and I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed remaking it.
In other news, way back in 2005, shortly after Hurricane Katrina struck my home in New Orleans (thankfully, I wasn't there at the time), I started a song. I played it solo on acoustic guitar a lot around campus, and most people seemed to like it, but it took me forever to figure out how to expand it into a full band arrangement. Only just now, in June 2009, have I completed it. It's called
"Phantom," and though it's not as peppy-sounding as most of what you'll find here, I do hope you'll give it a listen and tell me what you think.
Over and Out,
-Jon

"False Positive": Song Swap!
The Songfight title due today was "False Positive," and I did something a little different this time.
I contacted
Ross Durand and provided him with
a demo to record. He fleshed it out into
a full track that's just great.
At the same time, he provided me with
a demo, which I fleshed out into
a full song of my own. As you can see, we both made huge improvements on each other's source material.
Make sure you go to
Songfight and vote for the ones you like!
[Note: technical difficulties have been resolved. Nothing to see here]

Nur Ein Round 4, wherein the poet sings
Round 4 of Nur Ein has been underway for two days at this point, with my new song "
What Once Was Grand" is among the competition. There's nine other songs in the running, and four will be eliminated. Will I make the cut? Who knows! All I know is it was very fun to engage in this week's non-optional challenge: lyrics must be in the form of a sonnet.
EDIT: Well, I'm finally eliminated. Finished dead last. It was a fun ride while it lasted. See you all next song!

Round 3 - Herein there be rap!
Round 3 of Nur Ein IV begins at midnight tonight, and my new song "Silver Tongue" will be among the thirteen entries posted. One artist has already declared he won't be able to get his song in, so there will be three cuts this round. Will I make the grade? Hopefully the stylings of R. Mosquito and my new
Roland P101 should help.
The non optional challenge was "Guest appearance. Guest must rap in your song." I didn't want Reve to feel all alone on the mic, so I rapped too. Fair warning.
Hear the song
here.
UPDATE: Out of 13 songs, I finished 8th. Not stellar, but enough to continue to the next round. See you there!

Round 2
Round 2 of Nur Ein has begun! With three acts having missed the deadline, there will be only two cuts this round. Will my song make the grade?
You tell me.
The title was "Schadenfreude," and the non-optional challenge was "Song must argue two sides of an argument."
Oh, and one more thing... I've been trying to keep it relatively clean, but this song happens to have a dirty word in the chorus. If you're particularly sensitive to the "f-word," then I'd advise you to steer clear of this one.
EDIT: The results are in, and I finished in 5th place!
